The Karnataka Government Museum, located on Kasturba Road in the heart of Bengaluru, is one of the oldest museums in India, established in 1865. This museum is a treasure trove of archaeological artifacts, ancient sculptures, inscriptions, coins, and artworks that span centuries of Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage.

Historical Significance

Founded by Edward Balfour, the then director of the Central Museum in Madras (now Chennai), the museum aimed to preserve and showcase the state's ancient history and artistic excellence. It is managed by the Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage, Government of Karnataka.
